Existing clients, both in their mid-60s. They own their own business on which they’re ready to stop working full-time however would like to start something new on the side to keep busy.

They have been working all their lives and have managed to build a significant asset base to help fund a comfortable retirement.

Now that they’re ready to retire, they’re worried about how they’ll continue to pay for all of their bills and other living expenses when they stop work, which is something they had never really thought about prior.  

Their main questions were as follows:

1. Where will our income come from?

2. Will they have enough to live off?

3. Is there a limit on what they are allowed to take from their super?

It was clear this change was daunting for them whilst also being slightly embarrassed, as we had discussed everything leading to this moment many times in the past and they hadn’t taken it all in.

To help them, I asked a series of questions to get a better understanding of their concerns and worries. I started off providing them with a projection of how long their money would last which confirmed they had saved enough to retire comfortably - including being able to travel business class overseas which is something they’ve always wanted to do.

I took them through how it all works using the whiteboard, which enabled them to understand the flow of money once they retire.

The look of relief on their faces was priceless upon realising they would be able to enjoy their retirement on their own terms. I explained that we are here to guide them through every stage of this process and well into their future as their needs inevitably change.

Our meeting provided them both with greater understanding with what happens from here and now they felt they were ready to move to the next phase of their life, retirement.
